I had Architecture 1 with Gary Meyer last term (Fall 2013). Gary would lecture about a certain time period/ region of historical architecture, and we would do sketches and then a final pencil drawing for the class. I had so much fun I ended up drawing three for every lecture he did. It was a great class. Here’s the first piece I did for the class. I was imagining if ancient Rome had their own “Macy’s Parade”, there would be (assuming there’s balloons) giant Zeus’, Hercules’, Athena’s balloons in it. :)

Here are two more paintings I did from Mike’s digital landscape class. We handed in 4 finals out of…however many you did over the term. I’ll keep painting…keep painting…

Just thought I’d share these paintings from last Summer (2013). I was in Mike Humphries’s Digital Landscape class. Although named digital painting, what we actually learned in class is painting landscapes on site with gouache, scanned them, and touch up the paintings in photoshop.

These…are really hard :/ Mike easily make painting looks easy, of course, he has been painting for soooooo long. Mileage mileage mileage…but we had tons of fun anyway, learning and failing and learning and failing….hehee

I didn’t actually go to Chino Planes of Fame last term, because I went to CTN instead hehee. but still here are notes for Planes week, which is the last field trip of the class./ Zig Kuretake Cocoiro pen/ Cottonwood Arts Recycle paper sketchbook

Sorry I’ve been putting my blog aside for a while. I’ll try to update more frequently this term, of my works from the past 2 terms. Here’s notes for Tankland I did while TA-ing for viscom4 last term (Fall 2013) in ACCD. Hope this helps :)/ Zig Kuretake Cocoiro Pen/ Cottonwood Arts Recycle paper Sketchbook

Last week was Gene Autry museum. It’s right opposite the L.A. zoo, cool place if you like the wild west stuffs :) There’s a wide range of tools, weapons, transportation modes and some architecture. This is more a transition week from organic forms to hard surfaces and vehicles. The next note will be on Tankland. :)/ Zig Kuretake Cocoiro on Cottonwood Arts Sketchbook/ Viscom4/ Fall 2013

It was human figure last week. We’re mainly dealing with heads and hands for the most part though, some people want to try the whole figure too. We weren’t going too in depth, because most of our products designers in the class barely drew (or never did) figure. (if you just started looking at this blog, these are notes I’m doing for a class I TA for, it’s taught by Peter Han :) )

I’m still struggling with figure drawing myself, hmm, but I’m trying my best to share what I learned from figure drawing classes, proportions were mainly from those of Will Weston’s Inventive Drawing class though :) (Will’s awesome ;) )

Fishes! My favorite week. We were at the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific last week. I can look at the fishes swim all day long, hehee…

Here are the notes I did for the class. People kept complaining fishes swim (too much) when we need to draw them, hahahaa, as usual XD 2nd page is mostly about putting these fishes into environments, because some students in class draw so well, but their drawings look a lil bit lonely…

We were at the LA Zoo last Saturday. Too many stuffs in animal drawing. I still find it super hard to draw animals :/

Some are directly from Joe Weatherly’s drawing guidebook. This is merely for students in class. Those in the “combining forms” section, “twinning”, straight vs. curves, eyeballs and noses part are all from the book. Great drawing ref guidebook to have. I sometimes refer to Ken Hultgren’s book too.
